After Herschell Walker was defeated by Democrat Raphael Warnock in Georgia’s key Senate race, the Republican son blamed Donald Trump for “demanding that he run.”

Christian Walker posted a series of posts on Twitter shortly after the results for Warnock on Tuesday night criticizing the Republicans for choosing his former soccer star father because he “has the same skin color as his opponent”.

The Associated Press and other US outlets projected the results of the race in favor of Democrats, about three and a half hours after polls officially closed in Georgia at 7 p.m.

While votes are still being counted, it means Mr Warnock – the first black US senator from Georgia – has an overwhelming lead over his Republican challenger in the race to win a full six-year term.

Mr. Warnock’s victory gave Democrats a 51-49 majority in the Senate.

The two candidates offer a great choice to the state’s black voters. Mr. Warnock, a senior minister at Martin Luther King’s Atlanta church, echoes traditional liberal views of the black experience, while Mr. Walker espouses the language of white cultural conservatism.

The candidates faced off in November’s general election after no candidate received a majority of the vote. Mr Warnock had previously won a special election to unseat retiring Senator Johnny Isakson. He will now serve a full six years in the Senate.

Herschel Walker’s son slams Trump and Republicans for ‘demanding’ father to run

Christian Walker, son of former football star Herschel Walker, went on a long and angry rant at Donald Trump and Republicans after his father’s defeat in the Georgia Senate runoff election.

Calling it “true”, Mr Walker said the former president had been in contact with his father for months demanding the election.

“Everybody in their right mind begged him: ‘Please don’t do it. It’s so dirty, you have a crazy past… please don’t do it”.

He said he was chosen by Republicans for “identity politics” even though he has no political background.

“Republicans, we say we don’t play ‘identity politics’ and then you run this guy basically because he’s the same color as his opponent with no background other than football. A grumpy old Republican could have won,” he said.
